Bondurant Mixson & Elmore LLP proudly announces 15 of its attorneys have been recognized as Super Lawyers and one as a Rising Star in the 2024 rankings. Each year, no more than five percent of lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.

Notably, Michael Terry has been named a Top 10 attorney in Georgia for the second consecutive year, while Frank Lowrey secured a spot in the Top 100 for the sixth time.

Super Lawyers, part of Thomson Reuters, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a multiphase process, including a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews. The selection process for Rising Stars is the same as Super Lawyers, with one exception: to be eligible, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

Bondurant Mixson & Elmore LLP attorney Frank M. Lowrey IV has been recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2024 “Lawyer of the Year” for Appellate Practice.

Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” These lawyers are selected based on particularly impressive peer review scores, and receiving this designation reflects the deep respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and practice areas for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.

Lowrey specializes in federal and Georgia appellate court appeals, representing plaintiffs and defendants in cases spanning business torts, contract disputes, antitrust, class actions, RICO and wrongful death. He co-founded Georgia’s State Bar Appellate Practice. Additionally, he is one of only seven Georgia members of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, a distinction he shares with firm partners Emmet Bondurant and Michael Terry.

THE BONDURANT PARTNER WAS PART OF THE LEGAL TEAM THAT OBTAINED $1.7 BILLION VERDICT IN HILL V. FORD MOTOR CO.

Bondurant Mixson & Elmore LLP is pleased to announce Mike Terry has been selected as a finalist for Public Justice’s 2023 Trial Lawyer of the Year (TLOY) Award for his work in Hill v. Ford Motor Co.

The TLOY Award recognizes the accomplishments of an attorney or team of attorneys working on behalf of individuals and groups that have faced significant injustice. This is a joint nomination for the attorneys on the team representing the plaintiffs in the case.

In Hill v. Ford Motor Co., which resulted in the largest verdict in Georgia’s history, the jury ruled in favor of two brothers who lost their parents when the roof of their Ford F250 Super Duty truck collapsed during a rollover accident. The plaintiffs presented evidence that the automobile manufacturer had sold over five million Super Duty pickups with dangerously weak roofs.

“This verdict sends a message that companies cannot disregard safety defects, and consumer safety takes precedence over corporate profit,” says Terry. “I’m immensely proud to be part of the legal team that achieved this landmark ruling on behalf of our clients.”

In addition to Terry, James E. Butler, Jr., and Daniel B. Philyaw of Butler Prather, and Gerald Davidson, Jr., of Mahaffey Pickens Tucker were nominated for their work on the case.

Each year, Public Justice, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization, presents its TLOY Award to the attorney(s) who made the greatest contribution to the public interest by trying or settling a precedent-setting, socially significant case.

This year’s award winner will be announced during Public Justice’s Annual Gala and Awards Presentation in Philadelphia on Monday, July 17.

The firm achieved Band 1 rankings for its antitrust and commercial litigation practices.

Bondurant’s antitrust and commercial litigation practices both received prestigious Band 1 rankings in this year’s guide. Partner Mike Terry was named a 2023 Distinguished Leader by the Daily Report’s Southeastern Legal Awards. This award recognizes lawyers who achieved impressive results in 2022 and demonstrated clear leadership skills that helped them achieve those results.

In 2021, Terry was selected by the Daily Report as Lawyer of the Year.

Previously known as the Georgia Legal Awards, the program was expanded this year to include Georgia, as well as Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The honors will be presented at a June 22 gala in Atlanta.
